HDPE Flange Adapter

HDPE flange adapter is one of the equipment used during the assembly of flanges produced from HDPE raw material, two parts with different or similar adapters to each other. Flange adapters are needed for the assembly of two flanged parts, the assembly of two parts with and without a flange, or the assembly of two parts without a flange. The adapter of the two flanged parts is needed only if the materials of the flanges are different from each other, otherwise it is not needed. Since HDPE is a widely used and needed material, especially in recent years, flange adapters have also started to be produced from this material and have started to take a place in the industrial sector.

HDPE flange adapter has started to become a new favorite of companies rapidly, especially considering the characteristics of the raw material it is produced. HDPE flange adapters have provided great advantages to users because their raw material is flexible, light and durable. In addition, since it is made from a more economical raw material than its counterparts, its sales rates are increasing steadily.

What is HDPE?
HDPE is a hard and high density polyethylene material obtained from petroleum. It takes its shortened and widely used form from its English equivalent. HDPE is the abbreviated form of “High Density Polyethylene”. Its Turkish translation is “High Density Polyethylene”. It is also called “linear (linear] polyethylene”. It is commonly referred to by this name in the industry and manufacturing sector, and it is also widely used in these sectors. It is necessary to use approximately 1.75 kg of oil in order to obtain 1 kg of HDPE raw material.

There are several ways to obtain HDPE raw material. The first of these is the polymerization method. With this method, high pressure is used to obtain the raw material. In coordination polymerization, catalytic synthesis is carried out at a temperature between 50-75 °C and under low pressure. Titanium tetrachloride and aluminum alkyl dissolved in heptane are used as catalysts. The heat of polymerization is removed by the cooling process. The polymer form seized after the process can be powder or granule. The raw material passes to the drying process by filtering from the liquid medium. After drying, it is packaged and waits for its buyers.

Another method that can be followed in HDPE synthesis is the “metal oxide catalyst polymerization” method. In this method, ethylene gas is first dissolved in paraffin, then it is heated to 35 atm at a temperature between 60-200 °C. kept under pressure. After a certain time, the cooling process is done and the evaporation process follows it.

HDPE is a 90% crystalline material. The main chain has at least 200 carbon atoms. The relative density of HDPE, which is defined as Type III and Type IV in ASTM standards, is given as 0.940 and higher. (HDPE, PETKİM capacity is 96.000 tons/year).

Features of HDPE
HDPE is similar in appearance to LDPE, but it is a much harder material in structure. Besides the hardness of its structure, it is resistant to water and chemicals. The mechanical properties of HDPE are very good. It is particularly resistant to impacts and pulls. In addition, since it has resistance to corrosion and abrasion, it provides an advantage for its users when compared to other materials. However, it is not as durable as LDPE in light and outdoor conditions. Of course, this situation can be changed and resistance can be increased with special fillings. Since it is light and flexible, it is easy to install and thus saves time and energy in the work to be done. It also has a self-lubricating feature.

While HDPE itself is resistant to freezing, it ensures that the liquid passing through it does not freeze. In this way, it is ensured that the transported materials are delivered in a healthy way. It has the feature of not holding dust and dirt.

Where is HDPE Used?
HDPE has a very wide usage area. It is one of the most used raw materials in pipe production. Gas distribution pipes, pressure pipes, bottles, cans, drums, white goods, machine parts, insulating materials, toys, electrical and electronic goods, etc. used in production. It is a material suitable for many forming methods such as powder coating, film drawing, rotational molding. It is particularly suitable for electrical and electronic production.

What is Flange?
Flange is a connecting element used in pipelines that prevents leakage with the help of gasket. Especially in high pressure environments, stainless flanges are used. Flanges are generally used in pipelines as well as less frequently in the field of machinery and installations.

HDPE Flange Adapter Flanges are classified according to the connection types and standards on the lines. These aforementioned standards vary according to their pressure characteristics. These are divided into PN Norm, ANSI Norm, BS10 Norm, JIS Norm.

What are Flange Dimensions?
While determining the flange dimensions, the flange material, the pipe diameter of the installation, the pressure in the installation, the temperature of the installation should be taken into account and the adjustments should be made over these values. When talking about the dimensions of the flange, the inner diameter is the outer diameter.

p, bolt circle diameter, wall thickness, number of bolts are used.

What are Flange Standards?
Flanges have four basic standards. These; ANSI is PN, BS10 and JIS. ANSI, American standard; PN, European standard; BS10 is the UK and Australia standard and JIS is the Japan and Korean standard. All these standards use different flange sizes, so a size that fits one standard does not fit another standard.

Flange Adapter
The flange adapter is used to connect webs made of different materials or specially designed for one material. It provides a healthy connection between different flange types or flanged and non-flange equipment. It is especially used where two pieces of equipment do not have similar flange types or only half are flanged.

Flange adapters are divided into flange adapters used for incompatible or different flange pairs, and flange adapters used when a non-flange part is to be joined with a flanged part. Flange adapters are used when a flanged part is to be joined to a pipe. Flange adapters are also used when pipes are to be joined end to end.

What is HDPE Flange Adapter?
Flange adapters can connect flanged and non-flanged parts. HDPE flange adapters also have the ability to connect pipes or flanges. An HDPE flange adapter is first joined to the specified pipe and then that pipe is joined with a compatible flange adapter or a compatible flange.

A support ring is placed behind the built-in face flange of the flange adapter and bolted to the mating flange.

Where to Use HDPE Flange Adapter?
An HDPE flange adapter can connect two flanged and non-flange parts together. Flange adapter can be used in every area where materials produced with HDPE raw material are used. For example, you can use HDPE flange adapter for the installation of drinking water pipes.
