C509-80: AWWA Standard for Resilient-Seated Gate Valves, 3 In. Through 12 In. NPS, for Water and Sewage Systems

This standard was made January 1980 and ANSI approved February 1980. Also provided is a history of the standard and information on use of the standard. This standard covers iron body resilient-seated gate valves with non-rising stems (NRS) and outside screw-and-yoke (OS&Y) rising stems for installation in water and sewage systems. Sizes of gate valves covered are 3, 4, 6, 8, 10, and 12 NPS (nominal pipe size). Sizes refer to the nominal diameter, in inches, of the waterway through the inlet and outlet connections and the closure area. The design working water pressure shall be 200 psi for all sizes. Included are sections on the following: general information, definitions, and references, data supplied by manufacturer and affidavit of compliance; material specifications, physical and chemical properties; general design, resistance to stress, basis of structural design, size of water way; detailed design, parts to be made of gray or ductile cast iron, parts to be made of brass or bronze, bodies and bonnets, valve ends, guides, stems and stem nuts, stem seal, packing wrench nuts and handwheels, gaskets, valve seats, seat reinforcement, glands, gland bolts and nuts; workmanship, castings, painting, testing, inspection and rejection; marking and preparation for shipping. The appendix includes information on installation, operation, and maintenance of gate valves.
