DIY Kit Reccomendations for 4x8 CNC Router

    Hi all,

I'm looking for a good, complete DIY 4'x8' CNC router kit. I don't mind supplying computer/router, etc.

I'll be using the machine for cutting parts out of 1/4", 1/2" and 3/4" bamboo sheets.

I found the blackfoot (http://buildyourcnc.com/blackFoot48v40.aspx). Any others? Looking for a solid, stable design.

    Best,
    Jim

Joe's Hybrid CNC is another one that can easily be turned into a 4x8 machine.

I'd stay away from the Blackfoot stuff. For not a lot more, you can build a much better machine.

    Hi Jim,
I am not selling a kit, but if you are building your own machine, you might find the info contained in this PDF of interest.

I've recently released the design files for my Kikori open source gantry router. While the plans are free, I am also offering kits as well.

I second this one as well. I run this machine personally 6-8 hours a day 4-5 days a week. I am getting ready to build another one when my new shop is done.

CNC Router parts for sure. My machine is a clone of those kits that I started building before CNCRP started selling kits.

Personally one of the largest benefits to these style of machines is how modular they are. If you started with a 4x4 to save $$ and later decided to expand to a 4x8 or whatever you can fit in your shop, the investment is pretty minimal.

Also the fact you can disassemble the machine and move it is a good bonus. Not to mention you don't need to glue or weld as with other machines. Aluminum extrusions are the bee's knees. =D
